Importance of Mother Mary: What Protestants Missed

blessed virgin mary
The Blessed Virgin Mary

The importance of Mother Mary is often overlooked.

More than 500 years ago the Catholic Church passed through one of the biggest breaking ups in our history.

Even when Great Schism was a tragedy enough and it always will be.

Because division of brothers is always devastating, let’s talk about the moment when we saw the last adieu.

This if the time from the numbers of our brothers and sisters who decided to leave and began their own journey.

We don’t need the number of books to point out what the main problem was: misusage and desire for power.

Even when there are many misunderstandings of teaching, many lost chances for communication, pride, and cowardice.

On both sides. In this mess and tragedy, there are two biggest failures implicit from this division.

Importance of Eucharist and the importance of Mother Mary. Both deprived on the protestant side.

And both implicit from the greatest book of all the times which is the Bible.

I don’t blame no one for this, let’s be clear, some mistakes were made by all of “us” back then.

What our departing siblings just missed, despite the importance of the Teaching of the Bible, which they always put in front (and we should all agree that they are right in making important The God’s Word).

I’m introducing them into a mess which they fell into in the case of the Virgin Mary.

If we track every word which is put in The Bible, describing or reminiscing our Mother, we could be confused why protestants argue so much, when we put our Mother so much in the front.

Let’s explain this.

WHY THEY’RE MISSING THINGS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF MOTHER MARY

1.Old Testament

We can not reject the Old Testament and notes about the future mother of Saviour, because if we would done it, we would disclaim everything.

The Book of Genesis, Isaiah and Jeremiah that contains the uniqueness of Mother Mary.

Let’s begin with the book of Genesis:

I shall put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; it will bruise your head and you will strike its heel.

GENESIS 3:15

From the beginning we have a chance to be knowledgeable about her mission for the future. It is clear.

After Adam and Eve and their acts which led them out of the garden of Eden and us from the God’s favor (if we can say it like that), there is Word from God, which tells us that there will be enmity between children of Woman and the snake.

And that from that moment on these children will be superiors.

If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, we believe that Mary as His Mother is Mother of God.

So the Mother, Woman, who delivered a Child. Mary was mentioned as a woman whose children will bruise devil’s head.

What Adam and Eve broke down. Mary and Jesus repaired. That’s the importance of Mother Mary.

What could be in our favor is the prophetic book of Isaiah. He himself mentioned that:

The Lord will give you a sign in any case: It is this: the young woman is with child and will give birth to a son whom she will call Immanuel.
On curds and honey will he feed until he knows how to refuse the bad and choose the good.

isaiah 7:14-17

And then we have something from the book of Jeremiah that says:

How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? For the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.

Jeremiah 31:22

And I love what , for example John Chrysostom, once mentioned:

The symbols of our fall were a virgin, a tree and death. The virgin was Eve (for she had not yet known man); then there was the tree; and death was Adam’s penalty. And again these three tokens of our destruction, the virgin, the tree and death, became the tokens of our victory. Instead of Eve there was Mary; instead of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the wood of the cross; instead of Adam’s death, the death of Christ.

Do you see then that the devil was defeated by the very means he used to conquer?

By a tree the devil laid Adam low, and by a tree Christ defeated him.“

When it comes to the importance of Mother Mary, just see that she comes with full history of mankind, right?

2. Behold your mother…we do not worship her. We just do what she and Jesus told us to do.

This scene makes it so much clearer. In Ten Commandments you can read 4th one:

Honour thy father and thy mother

So we do. By honouring Mother we try to do everything she tells us to do, like every good child should do.

So if she told at the Wedding at Cana ‘Do whatever he tells you.'(Jn 2:5), we just do.

When Jesus saw his motherand the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.

Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.(Jn19:26-27)

We run back to 4th Commandment. If He pointed out her as our mother and at John as her son, we just do what we have to do: honour our mother. We do what Jesus told us to do. It is just vicious circle.

3.We do not take her as someone more important or bigger that Son of God.

No, no. We know her as our mother and mother of Jesus.

Nor do not take her the importance of Mother Mary a top priority.

To follow her example and her words is what we do, both of them leads us straight to Jesus.

Like the best mother she always navigate us straight to Him.

And again: we do not worship her. We honor her. Like we are meant to do.

4. Book of Revelation

After all, The Book of Revelation and its chapter 12 takes us closer to her again , when it presents us the scene of her and devil.

If we read it with clear head, we have to notice that devil had very great interest in destroying her and her son.

And when he failed he began to attack other children of her. Like, are we not in the middle of it for centuries?

I believe that there could be both the church and Mary represented in this woman, but for me it is more possible to see Her in the woman, because of giving birth to the Son.

Like we all know, Jesus is Head of The Church, not The Church of Him.
